Written by Joe Lovitt, Return of the Christmas Kid is a light comedy that is a sweet, updated version of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol.  Calvin owns a toy store in mid-town American called The Toy Box.  On Christmas Eve he wants to stay open as long as customers are buying, but family and emp0lyees say it isn’t right.  Then Calvin is visited by Angela, an angel with an attitude, and the story takes off from there.  This show will make you laugh and cry, and remember why we celebrate Christmas.

This is also a great chance to make Christmas a little happier for area children.  In cooperation with KOAM-TV and The Salvation Army, JLT gives you the opportunity to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the performance and place it on the front of the stage.
These toys will be used in the set for The TOY BOX store.
After the production all of the toys will be donated to
The Salvation Army’s Christmas Toy Drive!

Tickets are on sale now.  Adults $18; Seniors (55/up) & Students (Any) $15;
Children 12 and under $8.
All seats are reserved.  Make reservations by calling the JLT box-office during regular office hours or online by clicking on the Blue Box, upper right.

An amazing record!  A community theatre that has kept its doors open for 80 YEARS!  And it all started with a group of people who loved acting, directing, producing, organizing – and on and on with all the qualifications necessary to form such an organization as Joplin Little Theatre.  And it has taken more and more people with these same desires and determinations to keep it going for this long.
We are so fortunate in this community to have these people.
And none of this would have been possible without the support of the
audiences who come to the shows and the donors who give extra financial
assistance to keep the doors open.
Joplin Little Theatre is truly a great institution.
We appreciate seeing you at our performances.

Directed by Bill Perry & James Boone
We follow the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, CA in 1980.  She comes on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest feat of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO (Hey – it’s 1980!)  But when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.  With music & lyrics by Jeff Lynne & John Farrar and book by Douglas Carter Beane, this show, full of high-energy songs and dances, is a sensational opener for our 80th season!

The Toy Box owner, Calvin, is visited by two angels that take him on a ride through Christmases of yesteryear and present, to show him what he’s lost in his life.  Come see this hybrid of A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and It’s A Wonderful Life!  This show will make you laugh, cry and remember why we celebrate Christmas.  It takes place in The Toy Box and this is your chance to give back.  Bring a new, unwrapped toy and put it on the stage.  After the production, all of the toys will be donated to The Salvation Army, to help brighten a child’s Christmas.
PERFORMANCE DATES:  December 4-8, 2019

Written by Ira Levin, Deathtrap holds the record for the longest running comedy/thriller on Broadway and was nominated for four Tony Awards.  It provides twists and turns of devilish cleverness and offers hilariously sudden shocks in such abundance that audiences will be spellbound until the very last moment.  The subsequent 1982 movie starred Christopher Reeve, Michael Caine and Dyan Cannon.  May not be interesting to young children.
PERFORMANCE DATES: January 29-February 2, 2020

A comedy, written by Joseph Stein, Enter Laughing is loosely based on the life of actor, comedian, writer, producer, director Carl Reiner.  The action centers on the journey of young, aspiring actor David Kolowitz, as he tries to extricate himself from overly protective parents (who want him to be a married pharmacist), and two too many girlfriends, while struggling to meet the challenge of his lack of talent
in the 1930’s New York City arena of show business.
PERFORMANCE DATES:  March 25-29, 2020

Directed by Becki Arnall
With music by Frank Weldhorn, lyrics by Don Black and book by Ivan Menchell, this production centers on Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the ill-fated lovers and outlaws whose story has been infamous since they achieved folk hero status during the Great Depression.  The music is described as a “non-traditional score, combining rock-a-billy, blues and gospel.”  Parental discretion advised.
PERFORMANCE DATES:  May 27-31, 2020

The work on our stage is finished!!  All new rigging, fly system – even to new curtains courtesy of Angel Guild.  We are in the process of moving everything from the trailers, outside the loading door, back into the backstage area.  This was big job initially, getting everything out – now bringing it back in is even more so as everything will be catalogued, photographed, labeled and filed.
So, we are back in operation.  Auditions were held for STALAG 17; rehearsals are being held for the upcoming Valentine Show, which will be performed Sunday, February 17.
Don’t miss any of the happenings at Joplin Little Theatre!
