After the devastating tornado that hit Joplin on May 22, 2011, many groups from all over the country came to give aid. One of these groups was the St. Louis Muny Opera company. They contacted JLT, saying they had collected donations during a week’s performance of “Oklahoma”. Mary Greenwood, JLT President, and Cecie Fritz met the Muny crew that drove from St. Louis early on Aug. 11, 2011, bringing a fully loaded deluxe horse trailer, a van and a small flat-bed trailer full of clothing, small furniture, sports equipment, baby needs, pet supplies – and on and on.
The first stop was at the Catholic Outreach center to unload some of the items, then on to the Joplin Family Worship Center on East 7th street. Several hours were required to unload everything. After that were many tearful goodbyes to these wonderful people to spent so much time bringing much needed relief to Joplin. Vince Rosati was on board to take the pictures and help preserve these memories.
